1. Large Water Bottles
This is my favorite mental trick to drinking more water throughout the day. As a person who struggles to stay hydrated, I always want to finish my whole refillable hydroflask water bottle. I believe that drinking at least a few bottles of water will help me reach my goal for the day.
2. Water Hydration Apps
When people think of using their phones, they think about using it to communicate with other people. However, phone apps can be helpful reminders for us to keep hydrated. Some apps give notifications throughout the day that reminds us to stay hydrated. Other apps use games to entice you to log your drinks in a fun way without it seeming like work.
I encourage one that fits your lifestyle and would not feel like a burden. Check out your app store and find one that works for you!
3. Eat more fruits and vegetables
Think about some fruits or vegetables you enjoy eating. How many of them help quench your thirst? According to Health, there are a variety of sources of food that are rich in water content for us to consume. A few vegetables include cucumber, iceberg lettuce, and celery. Some fruits include watermelon, grapefruit, and strawberries.
4. Avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine use
Alcohol and caffeine are both known diuretics. It leads to the kidneys not absorbing the water and letting it go in the urine. If you are trying to stay hydrated, the American Heart Association recommends people should avoid drinking caffeinated products because it “causes you to lose more fluids.”
If you are trying to stay hydrated, stick to water as your main beverage and avoid anything else.
